Serendipity Software releases Studio for Blackmagic and Megarip
SYDNEY, Australia - November 16, 2009 - Serendipity Software today announced Studio, a new module for Blackmagic and Megarip that adds layout and tiling features to both packages.
"Studio allows users to layout and tile jobs using a visual interface and resolution independent, non destructive processing" said Peter Skarpetis, Serendipity Software's Chief Executive Officer.
Jobs, in any of the supported file formats, can be moved, cut, copied, pasted and cropped. They can be placed at native size or into configurable image boxes, re-sized and rotated to fit or fill an area.
Nesting templates or layouts can be quickly assembled for fast output - or precisely planned to best use the space on the paper or make cutting easier. Layouts can be stored in a library for later use.
Studio's multi-drop feature makes life easy for busy professional photographers. Just create a nesting template and drag a photo onto it. The image is instantly duplicated, resized and rotated to fit. Submit to print, then move on to the next photo.
Studio's tiling feature allows users to set the total area of a billboard then automatically create a tile grid based on pre-configured print media dimensions and overlap.
Studio's cloaking feature shades and locks images as they are submitted for printing, allowing new jobs to be placed in the remaining free space without fear of overprinting.

Serendipity Software updates Megarip to version 5.0
SYDNEY, Australia - August 3, 2009 - Serendipity Software today announced version 5.0 of Megarip, a major update to the software that includes many new features and enhancements.
"Megarip version 5.0 improves on the print quality and colour accuracy of previous versions by using a new, more sophisticated printer model that expands the usable gamut of the printer" said Peter Skarpetis, Serendipity Software's Chief Executive Officer. "It also introduces the raster edition, which provides a cheaper alternative for digital photographers not interested in postscript and PDF support."
Megarip version 5.0 introduces a new engine that performs all calculations using 16-bits instead of the usual 8. Using 16-bits provides 257 times the colour depth of regular 8-bit processing during imaging, colour management, screening and rendering. Greater colour depth allows for finer colour control and precise image reproduction.
Megarip version 5.0 introduces a user management system that allows system administrators to control users access to the software. Each user is assigned a group, granting access to particular applications and functions within Megarip. Users are able to receive notifications, via email, of events such as job processing failures, server crashes, dongle removal or media levels.
Megarip version 5.0 introduces a new item called Media. Media is self contained and includes all settings required to produce colour accurate proofs on that media, when loaded into the printer. It keeps track of how much paper is left on the roll, or how many cut sheets are left in the printer. It also tracks the calibration status of the printer when using the media. Media can be used to control which jobs are printed, allowing print bureaus to output all jobs using the media loaded into the printer while automatically holding any jobs that use a different media.
Megarip version 5.0 improves on the print quality and colour accuracy of previous versions. Linearisation uses Lab measurements, and the number of steps is user-customisable. By measuring more steps, greater accuracy is obtained in the highlight and shadow areas. New ink limit and light ink algorithms expand the usable gamut of the printer, greatly enhancing colour accuracy.
Megarip version 5.0 introduces support for embedded ICC profiles in TIFF and JPEG files, and also includes support for TIFF files that use 16 bits per channel.
Megarip version 5.0 includes an improved automatic nesting algorithm that supports cut sheet media and better utilises the sheet area to reduce waste and printing time.
Megarip version 5.0 includes support for on-board printer Spectrophotometers, allowing for unattended linearisation and colour verification.
