Serendipity Software announces BlackMagic version 2.6

Serendipity Software Pty Ltd, the leader in digital proofing software for the pre-press and packaging industry, today announced BlackMagic version 2.6. This release incorporates innovative new features as well as enhancements frequently requested by the user base.

The most important part of this release is the incorporation of a new colour management system which makes it very simple to achieve accurate colour. No special colour knowledge is required and a user can be achieving accurate and consistent colour within minutes. All this is achieved using a 5 step colour calibration process as follows:

  • Paper profiling
  • Ink limiting
  • Linearisation
  • ICC Profiling
  • ICC Profile tweaking

Serendipity Software President & Ceo Peter Skarpetis said "The Paper Profiling module combined with the Ink Limting module allow using the full dynamic range of printers resulting in smoother output and better colour. In the past, the amount of ink had to be severely limited due to ink flooding."

The linearisation tool allows the use of spectrophotometers for automatic linearisation of printers. This ensures consistent day to day colour. It also allows sharing of ICC profiles between remote proofing sites.

Other highlights include:

  • A densitometer application which allows the use of any spectrophotometer as a densitometer
  • Faster descreening
  • An automatic progressive proof generator
  • A faster ICC engine
  • Better PDF compatability with Acrobat 5
  • Faster polling
  • More accurate absolute colourimetric rendering
  • Support for the Epson 7600 and 9600 line of printers
  • Support for the HP 10/20/50 PS line of printers
  • Better support for the Roland Hexachrome printers
  • Better support for double sided proofers
  • Placing of any EPS file as part of every proof
